Balighai : 8
kms from Puri, away from the crowds and the bustle, fringed by beautiful
casuarinas trees, Balighai beach, at the mouth of the River Nuanai, is an oft
visited picnic spot. A lovely place to sit and relax.
Fun things to do in and around Balighai
- Ride
the waves in fishermen’s catamarans.
- Bike
down to the Artists’ Village – Raghurahpur (14 kms). The artists here
paint on cotton cloth that’s been coated with a mixture of gum and chalk and
then polished before natural colours are applied.
- Go
shopping in Pipli (23 kms). This small village is famed for its brilliant
applique art. Pick up a bedspread, a wall hanging or even a temple umbrella!
- Experience
the Makar Mela – a fair held on Kalijai Island of the Chilka Lake, every
January.
- Take a
day trip to the Nandankanan Zoo, famous for its white tigers or the Udyagiri
and Khandagiri Caves.
Chandipur:
An ideal beach resort of Orissa. Situated 16 kms away from Balasore, this is a
unique beach where sea water recedes about 5 kms during low tide and advances to
the shore line again during high-tide each day.

Once
an ancient seaport, Gopalpur-on-Sea is today one of India’s most beautiful and
peaceful beach resorts – the perfect destination if you wish to ‘get away from
it all’ and unwind. You can go for long walks here, swim, sunbathe or simply
laze around. There are excellent facilities for surfing and sailing too!
The
nearby beach at Aryapalli is also worth visiting West of Gopalpur, 60 kms away, is
Taptapani, noted for its sulphur springs.

Konark
Beach
Quiet,
clean and unpolluted, the Konark Beach is a perfect place to relax and shop for
some souvenirs at the colourful, bustling stalls that line the beach. Further
down, across the sand dunes is miles of deserted beach, fringed with casuarina and
palm frees.
