The city was constructed by
Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1643).It
was during the reign of Maharaja Ram Singh that the city was painted pink
and has been like that since then. The old city has a planned according to
shilpa-shastra, which is the ancient Hindu treatise on architecture.
This city has number of gates and is
partially encircled by walls. The city with such contrasts has almost everything to offer you

Complex
This palace is in the centre of the city and is divided into gardens,
courtyards and buildings. The outer wall was built by Jai Singh. Just in
front of the palace is the Mubarak Mahal / Welcome palace which was
constructed by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II as a reception to receive his
guests. Other places of interest include the Diwan-i-khas / hall of private
audience and Diwan-i-am / hall of public audience and the peacock gate.
There is also the Maharaja Sawai Singh II 's museum,which houses an array of
weapons
Hawa Mahal
This is a five storey building and is one of the major land marks of the
city.
Sawai Pratap Singh, built the Palace of winds and air in 1747
. It was primarily constructed so that the ladies of the royal house hold
can look at the market down. It is an example of excellent Rajput artistry.
You can climb to the top now to have a look at the city below. It is a part

.Hawa Mahal was built by red and pink sandstone, Carvings and motifs
designed on the walls of the Hawa Mahal are proof of the efforts, dedication
and skilfulness of the artists of that period.Today Jaipur is symbolized by Hawa Mahal

. Jantar Mantar of Jaipur is just one of the observatories constructed by
Maharaja Jai Singh, He was an avid astronomer & buit it to
study movements of stars it in 1718 with the instruments called 'yantras'
.Jaipur observatory is the
largest stone marble-crafted observatory in the world.

This Museum is in Albert hall in the Ram Nivas public gardens. They have
exhibits like tribal ware, yogis in various positions, decorative arts,
costumes and drawings.

Ban - the largest in the country.
Amer Fort

This
fort was built by Raja Man Singh, Mirza Raja Jai Singh and Sawai Jai Singh
over a period of about two centuries. The palace complex rising from the
placid waters of the Mootha lake is approached through a steep path , This
fort is the complex of palaces, halls, pavilions, gardens and temples,a superb example of classic Rajput architecture, with its ornate terraces
and ramparts. The interior has many royal halls and wall paintings. |
There
is the famous Birla Narayan Mandir, Fort of Moti Dungri. Rajasthan has a lot
of festivals which are also an attraction of the state.
