The little
island
of
Diu
13km long and 3km wide, which also includes Ghoghla, a strip of land
connected to the mainland. Once a Portuguese outpost lies off the
Saurashttra coast of
Gujarat.
Now it is an integral part
of
India
in since 1961. There is still a Portuguese influence in the town, shown by
the churches, old buildings, and the impressive fort. The Portuguese Nagar
Seth’s Haveli is one of the most impressive houses.With
fine beaches, a couple of interesting forts and a relaxed ambience,
Diu
is an unspoilt destination.

Fort of
Diu
This is an expansive and
imposing structure built in 1541, is surrounded by a moat. There are a few
cannons in the fort and the views of the sea and town.One can find an old
lighthouse within.fort.
St Paul
’s Church
The beautiful
St Paul
’s church is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.
St Paul
’s has excellent paintings and a high ceiling with arches. Mass is still
held here.The construction of this beautiful church started in 1601& it
was completed after 10 years
Fortress of Panikota
The fortress of Panikota is
a magnificent stone structure in the sea, located approximately, one
nautical mile from the
Diu
jetty,on can reach it only by canoe or motor launch.
Nagoa
Beach
,
This beach is located in
the Nagoa hamlet 7km from town, is the longest and most beautiful beach in
Diu
. It forms a half circle and is surrounded by palm trees. It is a good place
for a picnic. . Various water sports facilities are available and the beach
is safe for swimming.
Chakratirth
Beach
:
The Chakratirth beach is
centrally located. The beach is frequented by the locals as well as domestic
and international tourists. The hill, surrounding areas and landscape are
beautifully illuminated. There’s also an open-air auditorium on the
hillock, overlooking Chakratirth beach.
Jallandhar
Beach
, conveniently located south of town, is small, as is

, which is slightly further west. .
Ghoghla
Beach
The Ghoghla beach is one of
the most beautiful beaches in the
Diu
district. Besides the golden sand, the sea and the numerous palm trees, a
tourist complex provides all the basic amenities to tourists.
Diu
Museum
The Diu museum was formerly
the old
St. Thomas
church that was converted. It houses antique statues, stone inscriptions of
earlier rulers, wooden carvings, idols, shadow-clocks and other important
artefacts, collected from various sites.
Gangeshwar
Temple
The temple is situated
three kilometres away from
Diu
in Fudam village. A Shivalinga, known as Gangeshwar, can be found in the
midst of the rocks on the seashore, and is washed by the tidal waves of the
sea.
Jallandhar Shrine
Located on a hillock close
to the beach, south of
Diu
town, this is a small shrine crowned with a dome. It contains a niche where
a stone-carved face of Jallandhar can be seen. A popular place of tourist
interest.

Summer in Diu ranges from
March to May, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 36°C and a
minimum of 20°C.Winter here lasts from October to February, with
temperatures rising to a maximum maximum of 26°C and down to a minimum of
20°C.
