The requirement of Equipment depend
upon Trekking routes , anticipated level of exertion and the degree of
difficulty & also on altitude .Trekking
routes can be graded according to the anticipated level of exertion and the
degree of difficulty.
GRADE LEVEL OF EXERTION
- Low
altitude excursion, with or without trekking. Appropriate for anyone in
good health.
- Trekking
below 5000 meters up to five or six hours a day. Some trekking experience,
though not essential, would facilitate orientation.
- Trekking
routes going above 5,000 meters, requiring greater physical activity
including sustained periods above the tree line. Previous trekking
experience preferable.
- Good
physical condition and basic mountaineering skills essential.
- High
grade physical condition and advanced mountaineering experience required.
In
addition to trip grading, which indicates the required level of physical
activity, each route can be further categorized
by degree of difficulty.
- Elementary;
- Medium;
- Strenuous.
The equipment listed below
are for elementary level & for low altitude trek .Please ask for the
check list before you finally proceed for trekking .
The equipment List
A firm rucksack with broad
straps, sleeping bag, foam mattress, comfortable walking shoes, rainproof
(anorak), torch, matchboxes, umbrella and water bottle are essential.
Personal clothing including
woolen shirts, pullovers, T-shirts, shorts, feather jacket, longjohns, socks,
personal toilet items, camera and film, should be included to suit the
duration and altitude of the trek while keeping overall weight to the minimum.
Don't forget to take the first aid kit for the
trek that should include basic medicines and bandages for cuts and burns,
headache, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, sore throat, eye lotion and
diuretics, cold cream should be applied liberally for the day’s walk.
The first aid kit & these equipment can be
hired either from clubs or purchased from one of the agencies selling it.
Prior to setting out, all equipment must be tested and team members must
familiarize themselves with its use. Kerosene must be carried so that the
fragile mountain environment is not further degraded by cutting of wood. Be
alert to changing weather patterns so that needless risk is avoided.
If
you need to carry heavy equipment such as special cameras or scientific
equipment you may require additional ponies or porters that can be arranged
& will be charged for
this extra service

Precautions
-
Know your route well and
& ask for area map before you for trekking.

Carry medicines and a
First Aid Kit for use in the event of an accident. Also carry a bottle of
boiled water while trekking.

After using temporary
toilets at camping sites always fill them up with mud or sand.

After camping carry all
the garbage, empty bottles, polythene bags and cans with you and thrown
them only in the municipal garbage dump.

Choose your camping site
away from the villages so that there is no ill effect on the local forest
and plant life.

Always trek at a medium
pace and maintain mental equilibrium all along the way.
