Places of Interest   Ghoom  Noted for its scenic beauties, especially the sunrise from Tiger Hill, which also offers an occasional glimpse of Mt. Everest on clear days .

Ghoom Monastery enshrines the Maitreya Buddha, having 15 feet high giant image of Maltreya  or of the Coming Buddha

(10 Kms) for picnics and golfing. 

Batasia Loop 

(5 Kms), where the toy train takes a unique turn. the meter-gauge, toy train winds its way over this brilliant piece of engineering delight. It is a pleasant and delightful descent from Ghoom - the highest railway station in the world.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park

This is the home of siberian tigers, llamas, black bears and pandas.

This is a house of orchids and Himalayan flora. 

Passenger Ropeway:

At North Point, about 3km north of the town, is India 's oldest passenger ropeway (cable car). It is 5 km long and connects Darjeeling with Singla Bazaar on the Little Rangeet River at the bottom of the valley.

Mirik

Mirik is 1767 m above sea level. Mirik has grown around a lovely lake with boating facilities and a milder climate. The town is centered around the Sumendu Lake . Landscaped gardens, the tourism department cottages and boating facilities have made Mirik an attractive resort town. On the western bank of the lake is the Debisthan with its Singha Devi mandir.

Mirik has several view points like Ramitey Dara and Deosi Dara which offer spectacular views of the eastern Himalayan ranges. Mirik also has tea gardens, orange orchards and cardamom groves.

Sandakphu

(56 Kms) and   Phalut (79 Kms) are famous for rhododendron trekking trails.  

The best time to visit  is between March to mid-July and mid-September to the end of October
